Erol Babaoğlu

Erol Babaoğlu was born on June 22, 1977, in Istanbul, Turkey. He completed his secondary studies at the prestigious Cağaloğlu Anatolian High School and later graduated from the Department of Public Relations within the Faculty of Communications at Istanbul University. He pursued his professional acting training between 1996 and 1999 at the renowned Studio Players (Stüdyo Oyuncuları) workshop under the guidance of Şahika Tekand. The actor's rich filmography features dozens of highly successful and critically acclaimed characters across theater, cinema, and major television series. He achieved significant global recognition and artistic success for his breakout portrayal of Şahin Öztürk in the award-winning feature film "Burning Days" (Kurak Günler, 2022). For this performance, Babaoğlu won the prestigious Best Supporting Actor award at both the 59th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival and the 55th SİYAD Awards. His other prominent television masterpieces include roles in "Midnight at the Pera Palace", "Gaddar" (2024), "Kızıl Goncalar" (2025), and as Ölü Yaşar in the drama series "Eşref Rüya" (2026). Earlier in his career, he won the Ankara Film Festival award for his role in the movie "Circle" (Daire, 2013). Beyond his on-screen career, Babaoğlu is deeply dedicated to public and educational initiatives within the Turkish arts community, serving as a prominent manager and instructor at the Theatre Research Laboratory (TAL). He also served as the Contemporary Theatre Training Program Coordinator at the Istanbul Drama Arts Academy. His personal interests and hobbies include analyzing the psychological traits of characters, exploring world dramatic literature, and performing at international theater festivals. Erol Babaoğlu is married to his wife, the prominent choreographer and actress Sevi Algan (Sevi Algan). The couple tied the knot in 2011 and has a daughter named Alya (Alya), born in 2016. His wife is the daughter of legendary Turkish theater icons Beklan and Ayla Algan, and the family currently resides in Istanbul.
